The front cover is rubbed and slightly marked with some of the colours a little dull but the gilt blocking quite bright. There is an old water stain on the rear cover which runs from the top edge down to the corner near the spine, where the water pooled, causing a little bubbling of the cloth and variation in colour. As for the front cover, the spine is a little dull apart from the gilt blocking. The spine ends and corners are bumped and slightly frayed. There is a School Prize Label glued to the reverse of the front free end-paper dated "Christmas 1895". There is a small piece missing from the bottom edge of the front free end-paper. There are no other internal markings and the text is clean throughout; however, the paper has tanned with age, more noticeably in the margins. The edge of the text block is dust-stained and lightly foxed. This is quite an attractive example of the "New Edition" of 1895, with the main faults to note being the water staining on the rear cover and a small piece missing from the front free end-paper.
