The Theory of Sound, in which he examined questions of vibrations and the resonance of elastic solids and gases. The first volume appeared in 1877, followed by a second in 1878, concentrating on acoustical propagation in material media. Condition: Very rare find of the first edition. Hardcover in original black cloth with Blind stamp front & gilt lettering on spine. Ex. library with very minimal stamps ( see photo) in very good condition. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with noticeable, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has similar tanning with soft splitting, interior remains bright and clear, firm binding. 326 pages, 302 pages, dimension 22.5 x 14.5 cm.
