Peter Staechelin lived in Freiburg and in Vaugines. He studied with a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes from 1951 to 1958 at the Kunstgewerbeschule Basel and the Kunstakademie Stuttgart. From 1970 to 1995 he worked as a professor in art at the Freiburg College of Education. Staechelin was a member of the German Werkbund and the Künstlerbundes Baden-Württemberg. From 1958 he participated in more than 300 exhibitions and organized 50 solo exhibitions in 15 European countries.
