Lord Elgin Drivers watch - Art Deco men's watch - 1940s
At the time the Elgin brand was a household name in the world of watches.
Beautiful old ELGIN from the early 1940s.
The case is made from 14 kt gold with a natural display. Viewed through a magnifying glass, some wear can be seen at the top of this old thick gold layer.
The dimensions are:
Width: +/- 21 mm (without crown)
Strap to strap: 47 mm
This kind of watch, with the very long and movable strap, was known as a 'driver's watch' because the moveable lugs allow it to be worn on the side of the wrist. This means that the driver could read the time without taking their hands off the steering wheel.
Dial is a dark champagne colour with some age spots / dots.
Gold markers.
Small seconds hand in lowered part.
The glass is still clean and made from mineral glass, with very few marks / scratches from wear.
Large crown, which winds / adjusts time easily.
The original Elgin movement has a 559 calibre with 21 jewels.
It is clean, oiled and running right on time - - - but will not have the precision of a quartz clock.
Equipped with a worn brown leather strap from the time of the watch.
A classic Art Deco Elgin. Clearly not a modern watch.
Nowadays also fits a women's wrist.
Will be shipped by registered post
