In 1951, Wim van Est, the first Dutchman to ever wear the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, fell in the descent of the Col D'aubisque in the gorge. In honour of the van Est yellow jersey, Pontiac, his sponsor developed the "Maillot Jaune". Thanks to the van Est history, this watch has become increasingly popular.
