Don Quixote (Don Quijote) is the main character in the novel written by Cervantes, The ingenious gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha. This novel consists of two parts: Parts published in 1605 and 1615.
It tells the comic adventures of an old nobleman who thinks he's a wandering knight. This main character is the stereotype of the idealist, a foolish hero with his good intentions but ridiculing himself with his impractical deeds.
The ‘hidalgo’ (the lowest noble rank in Spain) Alonso Quijano lost his mind after reading too much knight novels. Thinking that he himself was a knight, he leaves his home calling himself Don Quixote of La Mancha and begins wandering around the roads and Spanish countryside on his 'battle horse' Rocinant.
