SMITHS SECTRIC bakelite cased electric wall clock
SMITHS SECTRIC bakelite cased electric wall clock with 9 inch dial, 1946
The design of this clock dates to the mid-1940s. It was once a familiar sight in schools, hospitals, factories, stations and offices across the UK and Commonwealth.
This is a very early example, dated October 1946. It features the sought after smooth-sweeping red second hand. The dial is aluminium (steel was in short supply after the war), which accounts for its outstanding state of preservation. The clock runs on mains electricity and is driven by the reliable 'Bijou' synchronous motor. It keeps perfect time because it is synchronized to the frequency of the electricity supply.
The clock has been sensitively restored and is in excellent overall condition. It is supplied in full working order with instructions and guidance on aftercare.
