Cameo shell lamp, early 20th century
Antique cameo shell lamp, early 20th century
The cameo engraving depicts a young woman playing the harp. Perfectly made on metal structure depicting three harpies with feline feet. In good condition despite its age. The object is designed to be used as a lamp.
Size 21 cm including the base.
The metal base rests on the shell, where it needs a small two-component bonding.
Nothing that affects this fantastic object. This must be done if you plan to turn it into a lamp, otherwise it can be left as is. The cameo is a jewel made through the incision of a layered stone (typically onyx) or a shell, especially the Cypraecassis rufa,Cassis madascarensis and Cassis cornuta, as these shells have a surface with two distinct layers of colour, which makes it possible to clearly define the figure in relief. Still today cameos are handmade, which makes it a high value piece and ensures that each figure represented is always different from one another.
