Roger Capron Vallauris - Lamp foot

This very whimsical designed lamp foot with a drawing of a fish is made by the ceramic artist Roger Capron (signature on the back of the lamp foot). ‘Roger Capron was born in Vincennes, France on September 4, 1922. Interested in drawing, he studied Applied Arts in Paris from 1939 to 1943 and worked as an art teacher in 1945. He died on November 8, 2006, leaving behind a considerable body of work that is worldwide recognised. In 1946, Roger Capron moved to Vallauris, where he founded a ceramics workshop known as 'l`Atelier Callis', contributing to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris. In 1952, Roger Capron purchased an abandoned pottery in Vallauris and opened a small ceramics factory with 15 workers. By 1957, he had established a considerable international reputation. In 1980, his factory employed 120 people and during that same decade he reverted to making one-off pieces which were shown internationally. Following an economic crisis, the factory was closed in 1982’. This unique piece of mid century design (inspired by the work of Picasso) is the only lamp foot I have knowledge off. A similar lamp foot by this artist is on sale on the following site: http://www.galeriexx.com/solo-table-lamps/ for a price of €2,900. The foot is in good condition, without cracks or chips. The lamp has its original electrical wiring. The hood is possibly original, though can easily be altered. The measurements of the ceramic foot are 15 cm in width, 17 cm in height and the socket is 5.5 cm. The total height of this lamp is 32 cm without the hood and 34 cm including the hood. Please look carefully at the pictures for the accurate state of the object. Packaged with great care and sent by insured mail with Track and Trace. Also possible to pick-up in Tielt-Winge, Belgium.
