Georges Gori - "Elegant lady with dog" - Art Deco sculpture

Beautiful Art Deco sculpture of woman with dog. Patinated régulé (bronze?), ivoirine (celluloid?), marble ... sizes 56, 53, 20 cm. A wonderful sculpture with mostly subtle details and the woman's face finely made. Height including the pedestal: 53.05 cm. Width including the pedestal: 50.02 cm. Marble shows some rough spots at the top front. but not annoying because of the blazing relief. Otherwise in very good condition. In the course of time, the sculpture has become somewhat dull, but it can be cleaned by an expert. The chain between lady and dog is missing. In the signature the G of George is slightly worn, but still visible. GEORGE GORI Pupil of Jean-Antoine Injalbert, Paris. In 1924, trade in ivory began to drop, because of the rapid extinction of the number of elephants in the Congo. Artists were disgusted when faced with the slaughtered elephants on posters. In 1934, its trade had already dropped with a third. Ivory became scarce and unaffordable. For this reason, many artists chose to work with celluloid.
