His work is described as austere, rigorous and stylised art. "Sobriety and stylising mark his oeuvre. Later he found more artistic solace in displaying the female body". Others write about his work: "His sculptures are hewn from bare stone. He creates beautifully stylised sculptures, all with a mystical expression, by only cutting a minimum off the matter", or "Antoon Van Parys is a thinker and poet, who could carry an image or emotion with him for a long time, strip them off all their inessentials, and then process them flawlessly and lapidary, in clay and marble". Between 1920 and 1930, Antoon Van Parys was commissioned 16 assignments for the designing and carrying out of war memorials. Except in Klerken, war memorials made by him can also be found in Deinze, Lo, Woumen, Passendale, Petegem, Vinkt, Astene, Deurle, Kruishoutem, Zedelgem, Sint-Baafs-Vijve, Eke, Dranouter, Machelen en Edelare. In his war memorials Van Parys does not glorify heroism, he emphasises the devastation, the suffering, the grief. As a pacifist, he preferred to make peace memorials over war memorials, although his clients never seemed to understood this.
