This miners’ lamp comes from the Dutch mine Laura & Vereeniging Eijgelshoven (Please see the photo) and is a particularly early model, a real collector’s item.
The miners carried these lamps with them, as they warned of the presence of the very flammable mine gas. A hole was drilled in the mine face and the miner then held the lamp in front of the hole. If the flame reduced in size or even went out, you had to leave immediately as it indicated the presence of the dangerous mine gas.
With the worker’s number "1254".
