Dating between 1580-1610 Spain / Portugal. Fruit wooden carved polychrome Pietà (on a loose oak pedestal from the nineteenth century). This Pieta is a fine example of South-European religious folk art. Christ and Mary are beautifully carved and complete, so in good condition for its advanced age. The palette of the polychrome indicates some over-or repainting, but the Christ is fully authentic and similarly most of Maria, the mantle and the foot may have been updated through the centuries.
