Beautiful Australian sloop compass from the twenties. The copper has obtained beautiful patina over the past (almost) 100 years. Including oil burner Compass bowl with liquid and floating card are hung on a gimbal ring that sits in an binnacle. A binnacle is a space or cabinet on the deck of a ship in which navigational instruments were placed that had to be protected. By the gimbal axle, the compass always remained level when the ship moved violently in a heavy storm. This lot has been carefully cleaned and will be packaged with great care and shipped by insured and registered mail with Track and Trace.
