The battle flail is a medieval weapon type consisting of a shaft with a chain at the end. The end of the chain is generally weighted with a short metal rod or a metal sphere, which is often still provided with metal points. The distinctive feature of the flail is that it can hit an opponent who is defending himself with a shield.
There are many types of flail and these differ greatly from one another. The most common flails have a short handle and a long chain, which is useful when fighting man against man with enemies who carry a shield.
The "short stick and long chain" are relative: the chain always had to be shorter than the stick, so that the sphere would not end up on the fingers of the person who uses the flail. Battle flails of which the chain is as long as or longer than the stick, are not original. (Source: wikipedia.org)
Length of stick 40 cm, chain approx. 23 cm, and 33cm diameter sphere approx 10 cm. and 8 cm
