Floris Jespers (1889 - 1965) - Stilleven van bloemen in witte vaas
Beautiful, expressionist almost abstract, museum work by Jespers. Very impasto and virtuoso, the paint splashes off the canvas. It seems to be painted almost carelessly, but every stripe and dot of paint is very precise. Among other things, the deep black of the background against the bright white of the vase stand out. After almost 100 years, the impasto paint is still in prefect condition.
Floris Jespers was a renowned Belgian avant-garde painter. During the interbellum period Jespers is counted among the tenors of modernist painting in Belgium and he is mentioned in the same breath by critics at home and abroad with Permeke, De Smet and Van den Berghe as leading "Flemish expressionists".
Together with his brother, the sculptor Oscar Jespers and Dadaist Paul Joostens, he belonged to the circle around the poet-critic Paul Van Ostaijen, who undergoes the influence of European fauvism, expressionism, Cubism and Futurism.
His work hangs in all major Belgian museums and in the Netherlands, among others, in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Last year his work was part of an exhibition at Museum Kranenburgh: Flemish expressionists. Permeke, De Smet, Van den Berghe en Jespers.
Beautiful original robust frame.
The work will be carefully packed and sent by registered and insured mail.
