Marcel Breuer - Gavina - Lounge chair - Wassily chair
Italy - 1960-1969 - Steel, leather
The Wassily Chair was designed by Marcel Breuer for the residence in Dessau of his constructivist colleague Wassily Kandinsky, from whom it takes its name. It seems that the innovative choice to use the metal tube was inspired by the Adler bicycle model, owned by Breuer. Marcel Breuer's Wassily armchair marks a turning point in the history of design: for the first time bent steel is used to create the structure of a chair. This material, together with the leather that completes the backrest and seat of the chair, leads to the creation of a piece of modern and contemporary design.
In good overall condition. Perfect and polished chrome and leather.
The leather of the backrest is a bit loose but in perfect working order and comfortable.
