2016 La Gerla Riserva Vigna gli Angeli - Brunello di Montalcino - 1 Botella (0,75 L)

Fattoria La Gerla is a wine producer based in Montalcino, in the central Italian region of Tuscany. The estate is exclusively planted to the Sangiovese grape variety, and makes a portfolio of Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Toscana IGT wines. Sergio Rossi purchased the estate from Biondi Santi in 1976 and to this day it is still owned and run by the Rossi family. The estate consists of four vineyards planted between 1976 and 1998: Gli Angeli, Canalicchio, La Gerla and La Pieve. Approximately half of the vineyards are located in Canalicchio, while the remaining vines are planted in nearby Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Grapes are harvested by hand and then are macerated for approximately two weeks before fermentation and aging. There are two cellars at Fattoria La Gerla, both of which are located on the Montalcino estate. The oldest of these is home to the estate's most prestigious La Gerla vintages, while the more modern cellars contain a combination of Slavonian and French oak barrels and barriques to age the Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines, and Birba, a Toscana Rosso IGT wine. La Gerla's flagship wine is a single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Riserva gli Angeli. The grapes are sourced from the estate's prized Vigna Gli Angeli vineyard, or "Vineyard of the Angels", which was first established in 1976, making it La Gerla's oldest vineyard. The wine ages for five years prior to bottling, with four of these spent in Slavonian oak. Once bottled, the wine is cellared for 14 months before release.
