Ki Baitei (1734-1810) was a painter of the late Edo period. Born in Toba, Yamashiro Province in 1734. Baitei studied under Yosa Buson, a haiku poet and nanga painter, and because he faithfully inherited Buson's painting style, he was also called ``Omi Buson" once he moved to Omi.'' He left behind works on a variety of subjects, but he excelled landscapes, whose often fantastical rock formations fill the picture plain without overwhelming the viewer. Known as one of "Four guardians" of Buson's style. His mature style, however, reveals an original talent. He died in Otsu in 1810.
His works could be found in numerous museums worldwide, such as The Metropoliten museum, The British museum, Portland Art Museum, Harvard Art Museum, Seattle Art museum,...
