Complete set with Card shipping , Box & Original Insert ( very scarce to get, as the collectors keep it) & numbered ( 16 / 200 ) Maybe one of the best box on Shunga's work ( Erotic Japanese Painting & Woodcut ) , limited to 200 copies , released 30 years ago in 1992 by Toei Shoji Editions , It brings together all the masters of this art from 17th ( Monorubu or Kiyonobu ) 18th ( Hokusai or Utamaro ) 19th ( Eisen, Kuiyoshi or Kusinada) and others. Each author has 12 plates contained in a color envelope with embossed color paper with a tape with the name and references on. You will note that 3 authors have 2 pockets each ( N°1 & N° 2 ); yellowed color for Utamaro, rose for Kunisada & grey for Eisen & Kuiyoshi ( they have worked both on some woodcuts, maybe the best work of all ) Totally 13 envelopes with 12 plates, so 156 plates ( 35,5 x 25,5 cm ) contained in a rigid box covered with natural linen with a tape with title and reference, all protected in a double-cardboard . Each plate is numbered with the author's name, the date ( exemple Meiji-Period) and the process, color wood-block or Indian-Ink-Block . Something important , it's not the most famous woodcuts and we can discover others works as usual in such box. Generally, you always find the same works by Hokusai or Utamaro, That's not the case , and it's passionant. You are going to see the work by Shigenobu, less known but with a very great talent. The special insert ( 8 pages ) with the differents stades of Shunga 's evolution with a biography of each painter , you will note note at the back a plate with all resumed in a plate , you can see all in one glance ( periods, painters , sought after by the collectors) Also the number 16 on an embossed grey paper. You will note that the insert has folds and small yellowed stains on the edges. All the set is complete , and stayed in very good to excellent conditions, The card shipping is a bit worn with bumps and scratches ; the tape few worn also ( photos) The box is excellent to NM The differerents embossed paper envelopes have slights folds Almost all the 156 plates are excellent ( I have controlled the count) Some have deffects : N° 23 ; a small yellowed stain with slights folds N° 25 : also small yellowed stains with 2 very small folds N° 37 : slights yellowed stains with a fold on the left top corner N° 73: also small yellowed stains with a fold on one corner N° 94 : major deffect of all the set , a stain on each face, less visible on the N° 89 ( was under the 94 in the envelope ) N° 145 : a small yellowed stain at the top Overall a scarce copy.
