Flower still life in a glas vase is typical Exempel of the Biedermeier Epoch and was executed in 1850 by Spanish painter Ramón Simarro Oltra (Novelé, 1822-Játiva, 1855), the father of Luis Simarro. Ossorio and Bernard made him a native of Játiva, 1 although other sources state that he was born in Novelé, a nearby town, 2 3 on June 5, 1822.2 He died in Játiva in 1855,1 on May 7, 2 Shortly after returning from Rome, where he had departed five years earlier.1 At the Fine Arts Exhibition held in Valencia in 1855, twelve paintings of his hand appeared, in oil, among which were included the portraits of Callisto III and Alejandro IV, two academies and two family groups.1 He was a friend of Luis Madrazo. He married to Cecilia Lacabra Llamas,who died shortly after him, Ramon was the father of Luis Simarro.
