A master of Japanese sculpture, Yoshimichi was the recipient of the Prime Minister's Award in 2010 and has held several prestigious positions including being a juror for the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), a member of the Japan Sculptors Association, and the president of the Chiba Prefectural Art Association. This hand-carved Dragon Lantern Spirit (Ryūtōki) stands vigilantly, its mouth sealed shut as it carries a traditional lantern atop its head, a dragon coiling around its upper body. In Buddhist lore, the Dragon Lantern Spirit is a demon who illuminates the Buddhist world, usually depicted as subdued under the feet of the Four Heavenly Kings. However, this particular representation elevates the demon to a benevolent role, showcasing the duality and depth of Buddhist symbolism. Intricately detailed and exhibiting signs of its age through slight wear, spots, dust, small scratches, and stains, this piece remains in good condition. Please refer to the photographs for details. The signature of Yoshimichi is carved on the back, adding authenticity. This sculpture comes with a custom wooden box for preservation. Dimensions: approx. H 40.7 cm W 15.6 cm D 11.7 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
