Sarcophagus Plates. Phoenician, Late of the Hellenistic Period - Beginning of Roman Period, c. 150 BC - 50 AD. Lead. Front 88 cm in length and 37 cm in height. Sides 50 cm high and 41 cm wide. Only the pieces, not the stand. Condition: Good condition. Provenance: - Private collection, London. Purchased at Sotheby's London in the early 1980s. - Bonhams, London, 2009. Publication: - Bonhams. Antiquities. London. April 29, 2009. Lot 360. Description: These three sarcophagus plates are decorated with medi-reliefs of various motifs, especially on the long side: the Medusa's head is combined with trefoils and what appear to be marine animals. The composition, divided into panels separated by fluted columns, has grooved motifs that outline the lower and upper margins. A border with laurel leaves borders the upper part. One of the short sarcophagus panels has the frontispiece of a temple (with columns and tympanum) and the other has cross motifs. Notes: - The piece includes authenticity certificate. - The piece includes Spanish Export License (Passport for European Union). NOT TAXES. - According to Spanish legislation, items sent outside the European Union are subject to export taxes and will be added to the invoice, at the buyer's expense. These export fees are fixed on the final auction price and the tax rate is not applied directly on the total value of the item to be exported, but rather the different percentages by sections are applied to it: - Up to 6,000 euros: 5%. - From 6.001 to 60.000 euros: 10%. This export permit application process can take between 1-2 months maximum. - The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property.
