Stylish Antique Deakin & Francis Silver & Enamel Cigarette Case Birmingham 1933 Here on offer is a stylish antique silver cigarette case by the much sought after silversmith Deakin & Francis, assayed in Birmingham in 1933. The company was founded in 1786, Deakin & Francis is today, seven generations later, still owned and managed by the Deakin family (James, Henry and David Deakin), a rare surviving family owned business. The cigarette case features a stylish black enamelled panel flanked by a machine turned design, framed on the outer edges by scrolling border front and back. The back features a machine turned surface that matches the machine turning on the front. There is some surface marks to the enamelled panel. The case opens with a push button mechanism. The openings, hinges, & springs are in excellent condition. The interior has the original gilt satin frosted finish, that has little damage, wear or staining. The gilded interior still has the original elastic retaining bands. The case is fully hallmarked on the right hand interior compartment with the makers mark 'D&F' in conjoined circles for Deakin & Francis, the anchor for Birmingham, the lion passant guaranteeing the case is made from 925 Sterling silver, & the date letter 'J' for 1933. The other carries the lion passant & date letter. The cigarette case is offered in good antique condition, it measures about 8.5cm by 6.3cm including the button, by 1.1cm and weighs 103g.
