Johannes Grützke - Self Portrait

Johannes Grützke - Self portrait (Werknummer: E 306) Medium: Lithograph Material: Paper Dimensions: 18 x 25 cm Editor: Edition Panderma, Basel Year: 1975 Edition: This is an unnumbered copy of 230 editions (65 hors commerce were unnumbered) Signature: Signed and dated Provenance: Edition Panderma, Carl Laszlo, Basel Galerie von Bartha, Basel Private Collection, Basel Condition / Restauration: good condition / original condition Further Information: A rare limited edition of the portable collection of post-war and contemporary art La Lune en Rodage III. This is an unnumbered copy of 230 editions (65 hors commerce were unnumbered) and part of the third serie of the La Lune en Rodage books. La Lune en Rodage was published in three volumes in 1960, 1965 and 1977 containing a total of approximately 180 art pieces which provide an account of the artistic avant-garde scene between the 1950s and 1970s. The art works were gathered by Carl Laslzo and included the greatest artists of the time who contributed with important pieces, often marking a turning point in their production and carriers: Enrico Castellani’s work for example is his first documented graphic work and Piero Manzoni's multiple Achrome is the only one produced by the artist. Johannes Grützke is a German visual artist who was born in 1937 and died 2017. Johannes Grützke has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at Belvedere and Die Galerie. He was co-founder and most famous painter of the school of the „new magnificence“. He painted in a figurative, very independent style. The characters he depicts and the scenes in which he poses seem ironically over-subscribed. As a portraitist, he did not idealize his models, but tried to approach by distorting the characteristics and physiognomy of the subject. The Stadtmuseum Berlin wrote: "His pictures are ironic reflections of historical, mythological and religious material, bizarre descriptions of social behavior and unsparing self-questioning.“ Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'HÄNDEREICHUNG' sold at Grisebach '19th, 20th and 21st Century Art' in 2011 for $64,627.
