A collection of antique glass beads, found in Mali. Produced in the 16-17th Cent. in the Middle East, probably Syria. Transported through North-Africa by islamic traders. Found in the Sahel-zone of North -Africa. These strings were found in the north of Mali. Excavated from old settlements or found on the banks of flooded areas. Sometimes found as gifts for the deceased in pots. The dark-blue beads vary in size between 2 and 6 mm inn hight. The grey-coloured beads ( due to irisation), were originally blue/white or green. Sizes vary between 1,5 and 4 mm. Some small Neolithic stone beads were added. Due to their antique age irisation or scratching has occured. Collected in the city of Mopti in the 1990,s.
