Meteorito fantástico Campo del Cielo - montado en stand personal - Altura: 12.3 cm - Ancho: 11.5 cm - 2.2 kg

Unique and remarkable, this sizable fragment of an iron (nickel) meteorite weighs over two kilograms and comes with a custom-crafted metal base designed to elevate its presentation. Originating from the historic fall in the renowned "Campo del Cielo" field in Argentina, this extraordinary piece showcases the captivating narrative of a celestial event. Campo del Cielo, a vast geographical area located in the Chaco Austral region of Argentina, is famous for hosting at least 21 meteorite craters. About 4,000 years ago, the region experienced a meteor shower following the disintegration of a massive meteorite weighing about 840,000 kg, which exploded as it entered Earth's atmosphere. The impact of the fragments with the Earth's surface led to the formation of the present craters, dispersing a significant amount of metal fragments in the surrounding area, fragments that can still be traced in the region today. The largest and most studied of these craters, near the village of Chorotis, measures 50 meters in diameter. The estimated age of the event that created these craters is less than 4,000 years (Holocenean). Indigenous myths related to the meteor event suggest that these people witnessed the fall. Meteoritic fragments found in and around the craters are mainly composed of iron, with 6.68 percent nickel and smaller percentages of cobalt, phosphorus and other elements. This discovery is both rare and noteworthy, particularly due to its substantial size. Dimensions: 12.3 x 11.5 x 11.5 cm Weight with stand: 2385 g Total height on stand: 19.5 cm
