2018 Quanta Terra, Grande Reserva - Douro DOC - 4 Botellas (0,75 L)

PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 2018 Quanta Terra, Grande Reserva White 4 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Both Celso Pereira and Jorge Alves could have the nickname ‘Quanta Terra’, if they weren’t the personification of the wine brand that this year celebrates its first 20 years of existence. More than riding on the back of a passionate passion on the part of each of those responsible, Quanta Terra began to take its first steps (and without knowing it) in the distant 90s, where the two main actors met while collaborating in the Department of Enology in the Transmontanas Cellars. They quickly developed a professional complicity that would allow them to create a solid foundation for Quanta Terra which, at the time, was just a mirage – or a sketch in a paper notebook, the reader chooses the analogy that best suits him in the context. Finally, they were faced with a decision: heads or tails. Two properties filled their dimensions. It came up heads… and tails, since the chosen Quinta – Quinta do Tralhão – is the face of this producer and the crown of the incredible wines produced there. With an average elevation of 215 m and southwest exposure, the Quinta had, at the time, 30 ha of which 12 ha were under vines that were more than two decades old. It looked perfect. But everything good has a price to pay. The vineyards were in a general state of abandonment, which required complete restructuring. The millennium was ending when, finally, Celso and Jorge established the company Quanta Terra, Lda. Visionaries, with a project of high potential, but without the financial means to carry out Tralhão, the two winemakers agreed on their intentions and proposed a share to Mário Joaquim, owner of the property that had belonged to his family for several generations. The die was cast. With lots of treats, manual harvesting and some experiments in between, the two project mentors put their notebooks aside and finalized their preparations to present to the market what had been brewing in their minds for a long time… And voilá, they launched their first wine, Quanta Terra Tinto 1999. The rest is history. WINEMAKER: Celso Pereira & Jorge Alves. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 18 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 91 Points, International Wine Challenge (2021 Vintage) 93 Points, Revista Adega (2017 Vintage) 16.5 Points, Jancis Robinson (2017 Vintage) 92 Points, Tom Cannavan (2016 Vintage) 18 Points, Revista de Vinhos (2016 Vintage) 90 Points, Wine Spectator (2015 Vintage) 93 Points, Decanter World Wine Awards (2014 Vintage) 91 Points, Editor’s Choice, Wine Enthusiast (2014 Vintage) 90 Points, Robert Parker (2014 Vintage) 90-91 Points, VertdeVin (2013 Vintage) 95 Points, James Suckling (2010 Vintage) WINE VARIETIES: Viosinho & Gouveio. VINIFICATION Grapes from the Alijó plateau, where the soil is granite, harvested manually and aged for around 12 months in 500-liter French oak barrels. TASTING NOTES Very fresh and complex aroma at the same time, bay leaf, dry vegetable, beautiful citrus. Taste in the mouth, fresh and elegant, very discreet barrel, perfect acidity, tasty and with good length. As the top of the Douro range, it is an absolutely model white. SERVING For wines with their own freshness, acidity and aromas, associated with aging in barrels, there is nothing better than fatty fish such as smoked salmon and cod in its 1001 ways. For fans of international cuisine, accompany your favorite wine with a beautiful risotto.
