PRE-COLUMBIAN CHIMU STIRRUP VESSEL.
This Chimu polished blackware ceramic double-vessel from the north coast of Peru dates from between 1100 AD and 1470 AD, The vertical spout at the top of the vessel was broken away in ancient times. From the front, the twin bodies of the vessel resemble female breasts but, because of their spotted, curved protusions, they are more likely to represent an exotic Peruvian fruit of some kind.
-The antique has minor damage at the tip of the vessel.
-Ex-Desmond Morris collection. Acquired by him at a auction in London in the early 1970s.
