The eldest son of Kunihisa Utagawa, the grandson of Toyokuni Utagawa, and the younger brother of Kunimine Utagawa. His real name is Katsuta, the popular name Kintaro. It uses the signature of Kochoro(香蝶楼 and Ichiyosai(一陽斎) in honor of the Utagawa family name. In the Meiji era, he left behind actor paintings and warrior paintings, and in 1884 (1884), he won the prize for his work at the painting competition. He died at the age of 28, so the number of works is not so large.
