Pair of court attendant figures
The Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) was one of the greatest in Imperial Chinese history. The Tang Era is heralded as a golden age. It witnessed the prosperity of culture, economy, diplomacy and politics under a unified government.
A pair of finely modelled hollow-moulded terracotta Chinese Tang period statuettes of male court attendants. The figures are shown wearing long-sleeved robes, tied to the waist. They use a black headwear, and the right hand is held to the chest in the act of holding an offering, possibly incense. The figure’s surface still displays traces of original pigmentations, which would have been applied after firing.
