Byōbu plegable (biombo) - Pan de oro, Laca, Madera, Papel - Japón - Período Edo tardío (primera mitad del siglo XIX)

Alluring, large six-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) with a detailed genre painting depicting a lively cityscape framed by an impressive temple complex. The artwork offers a glimpse into various facets of daily life during the Edo period. Numerous individuals are depicted engaging in different activities: crowds gathering at a vast temple housing an immense Buddha, possibly the renowned Todaiji ("Great Eastern Temple"), its colossal head visible through an open window; samurai 侍 (noblemen) leisurely strolling beside a lake on the inside of a palace; people enjoying picnics on low platforms near tranquil rivers, and much more. Take a moment to explore the images and uncover the various portrayals for yourself. The scenes are surrounded by distinctive silver- gold leaf clouds with a relief design of circles. The polychrome painting is set on a dark gold leaf background, and surrounded by two silk borders, a thin green one, and a wide navy blue one with a golden fan design. The screen is protected by a black lacquered wooden frame with its original hardware. Considering its age in a very good condition with traces of wear conform age and old restoration. Please have a close look at the photos for a clear condition reference. The folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art. Period: Japan – Late Edo period (First half 19th century). Dimension: Total width 366.4 cm (2 x 62.2 cm and 4 x 60.5 cm), Height 173 cm. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
