Byōbu plegable (biombo) - Laca, Madera, Seda, Hoja de plata - Japón

An elegant, tall two-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) embellished with a pair of hanging scroll paintings 掛け軸 (kakejiku), each illustrating a vibrant flower garden teeming with diverse flora. The left panel features an array of delicate plants, including soft pink-white hibiscus 芙蓉 (fuyô), dark ivy leaves 蔦 (tsuta), blue bell flowers 桔梗 (kikyô), and a dragonfly 蜻蛉 (tonbo) perched gracefully on a blade of pampas grass 薄 (susuki). The right panel continues this botanical display with the early blossoms of a white magnolia 白木蓮 (haku’moku’ren), a prominent star lily カノコユリ (kanokoyuri), and several roses emerging from the bushes, all under the watchful eyes of a few fluttering yellow butterflies dancing above the plants. Both signed and sealed in the outer lower corners by the same artist: “Image by Ritsuda” 立達写. Colour and ink on brown silk. Surrounded an eye-catching border of crinkled, oxidized silver leaf. Protected by a black lacquer wooden frame. Silver leaf continuously undergoes the process of oxidation, which creates a beautiful aged patina. Period: Japan – Taishô period (1912-1926). Dimensions: Total width 170.8 cm (2 x 85.4 cm), Height 172.9 cm. The screen is in a very good condition with minimal traces of wear conform age and some old restorations. Please have a look at the photo of a restoration on the left. For a general clear condition reference, please refer to the photos as well. The folding screen is ideal for mounting flat on a wall and presenting as a single work of art. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
