Rare! Japanese traditional Hand carved wooden Kyogen mask of Oto乙 with outstanding craftmanship and excellent quality, made by Kiyoko清子 in 2001(Heisei-13).
Although it is called an ugly woman, it is loved for its humorous and cute expression...It is used for a wide variety of purposes, including Narihira Mochi, Makuramono Kyoroku Jizo, and Buddhist statues of Kannon and Buddha.
Among the few human faces in Kyogen, the use of masks for ugly women is unique to Kyogen, and Oto乙 is also called Otogoze乙御前, and it is also typical of Kyogen that the mask is used as a transformation tool to transform into a Buddha statue. The character's distinctive character gives it a cheerful and stylish feel.
