Artist: Yamamoto Shōun(December 30, 1870 – May 10, 1965), also known as Shoun Matsutani, was a Japanese print designer, painter and illustrator. He was born in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, to a family of samurai. He was appointed Shogun and given the name Mozaburo. As a teenager, he studied Kano school painting under Doso Yanagimoto and Shoryu Kawada. At around the age of 17, he moved to Tokyo and studied Nanga painting under Takikoutei. At the age of 20, he was employed as an illustrator for the photo magazine Fukoku Gaho, which featured famous places around Tokyo. Shoun mainly produced paintings in his later years. He died in 1965 at the age of 96.
