徳永仁臣 Tokunaga Hitoomi (1871-1936) Painter from Okayama Prefecture active during the Meiji and Taisho periods. He first saw Western-style painting in Okayama City and was so impressed that he decided to become a Western-style painter. While working as an assistant teacher at his old primary schools, he attended Matsubara Sangoro's Tensai Gakusha to learn the basics of Western-style painting, before moving to Tokyo in 1889 at the age of 18 to study under Goseida Horyu II. In 1924 he moved to Toyama City, where he lived until the end of his life. While working on landscapes and portraits of Tateyama and the Kurobe Gorge, he aimed for a fusion of Western and Japanese painting.
