España Plata 8 reales. Tipo macuquina. Del Naufragio de São José. - 39.2 mm

8 reales. Macuquina type. N/D. México. São José treasure. 16.04 gr. Bound for Goa, the São José was the almiranta of a fleet that left Lisbon in 1622, transporting royal treasure for the Portuguese Empire and Francisco da Gama, great grandson of famed Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, to reign at his post as Viceroy of India. Attacked by Dutch and British ships, the São José fought valiantly, but met her demise on a reef off the Mozambique coast. After almost 400 years, the São José was discovered. The shipwreck yielded a rare treasure, representing an exceptional collection of coins from Old and New world mints - the stunning remains of royal treasure once bound for India. These incredible coins, four bronze cannon and small glass trade beads were archaeologically excavated by Arqueonautas Worldwide in 2005. Provenance: From the São José shipwreck. Bought to Arqueonautas Worldwide (U.S.A.). The Supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot.
