Various studios - Photography in Japan during the wars - a history in photos. Emperor Hirohito (Showa)

The photos in this lot: 20 photos. Mounted on thick cardboard, albumen photo, size: 28x22, various sizes, slightly yellowish due to age and albumen. . Machinery, portraits, landscapes.. most probably around 1910-1920. And a surprise find: Emperor Hirohito on a white horse (reference: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/emperor-hirohito-of-japan-on-his-favorite-white-horse-news-photo/514690906) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A description of the content of these lots: The photos here for auction are part of a huge lot bought from a dealer in Osaka. Unlike other items regarding Japanese photography, these belong to a collector. We know this because the whole lot contained various types of photos, various themes and periods and different subjects and families. There is no way this was the personal collection of a single individual or family. Since the introduction of photography in Japan (ca. 1850), it was adopted and revered by the people and professionals, beginning with the first photos taken in Japan, from the Admiral Perry expedition and culminating with the noir/neo-noir photography of the 80ies of Hosoe and Moriyama But beyond the world of Japanese pro photographers, there lived the common people, who loved to take, recollect and remember stanzas and moments of their existence therefore preserving the smell and feeling of an era. The photos in this collection are mainly from Taisho/early Showa (and a few from late Meiji ca. 1900) meaning anything between 1900-1950. The original lot was weighting around 50 kgs. I'm not an expert of photography technique, probably most of them are cabinet prints and albumen prints, a few gelatin silver, those after 1930 are probably printed on photographic paper from the negatives. A special mention: there are quite a few photos from a professional photographer who used to work portraits and ceremony/wedding photography. Those are probably from the 1950ies (large format negatives) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shipping insured and express by DPD/FedEx/UPS, reaching anywhere in EU & US in 3-5 days
