This fine piece showcases the traditional Japanese lacquer art techniques of gold, silver, black, and red hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, togidashi sumi-e, gold powder, and silver powder, laid against a radiant gold ground. The intricacy of the uchikomi technique brings depth to the depictions of the Yomei-mon Gate, Mihashi Bridge, and a five-storey pagoda, invoking the spirit of Nikko in your abode. The hinged door of the cabinet opens to three drawers, each interior finished in nashiji, a pear skin texture that adds a subtle elegance. The inside of the door is a work of art itself, portraying the Kegon waterfall with its breathtaking 250-foot drop, crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail. Silver engraved fittings complement the cabinet’s luxurious aesthetic. While bearing signs of age with some surface wear and tarnish, the kodansu remains in good condition, a testament to its well-preserved craftsmanship. Dimensions: approx.
