Svend Aage Holm Sørensen As a craftsman, the Danish designer Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen (1913-2004) had an extremely good understanding of the potential of materials, and he knew how to rethink these. Holm-Sørensen's style as a designer to this day is not only aimed at the Nordic market, but also the international one that shows interest in the designer's distinctive and experimental expression. Dane Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen had a creative streak beyond the ordinary. He is known among vintage collectors, not least internationally, where the original lamps fetch high hammer blows at auctions. Some lamps remained sketches and ideas, others he brought to life, and thanks to a combination of creativity, talent and vision, Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen has played a significant role in Danish lamp design. From the 50s onwards, Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen took the lead in modern lighting, parallel to the heyday of Danish furniture art. As an authorized blacksmith, Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen possessed both an experimental and well-balanced understanding of materials and created innovative lamps of high quality with both an international and Nordic expression. Sven Aage was known for being able to draw sketches on almost anything: envelopes, theater programs, even tram tickets he used to sketch his vision and get ideas from his imagination to paper. This imagination, wealth of ideas and talent made Svend Aage Holm-Sørensen an international star in design, and gave him a significant role in Danish as well as international design history.
