In Japanese culture, the bamboo is revered for its strength, flexibility, and growth, symbolizing prosperity, purity, and innocence. The set's black lacquered case is thoughtfully designed for portability, complete with metal carry handles. It houses a large sliding box at the base, suitable for cutlery or larger dining accessories. Above it, three tiers of boxes are stacked, with a lid resting on the uppermost box. Adjacent to these is a small box, atop which sits a flask with a silver-colored cap that detaches when pulled, hinting at a design for beverage storage and service. Each component slides seamlessly into the frame of the case. The interior of each box is coated with a vibrant vermillion lacquer, providing a stunning visual contrast. While showcasing some signs of wear and age, such as scratches and scuffs visible in the photos, the picnic set retains its majestic allure. Please note that the protective wooden storage case shows its age with significant cracks and a lid that has a chipped-off wood strip. This bento box is more than a culinary accessory; it's a collector's item, embodying the elegance and meticulous craftsmanship of the Meiji era. Dimensions: approx.
