Linterna de jardín 'enterrada' 活け込み燈籠 (Ikekomi'dôrô) - Granito - Japón - Período Taishô (1912-1926)
A beautiful, tall 5-part granite 'buried' garden lantern, known as ikekomi'dôrô 活け込み燈籠, is hexagonally shaped and crafted from granite in a soft, sand-coloured hue with grey and black accents.
The lantern's base, a hexagonal post known as sao 竿, is designed to be partially buried, symbolizing chi 地 (earth).
Above this, the chûdai 中台 (platform) is intricately carved with lotus flowers, representing sui 水 (water).
The next section, the hibukuro 火袋, is hexagonal with two opposite sides featuring rectangular openings, and the other sides adorned with relief designs mimicking windows. Symbolizing ka 火 (fire) as a light source can be placed within.
An elegantly curved roof symbolizes fû 風 (air), and is topped with an 'onion'-shaped knob representing kû 空 (void or spirit), both elements reaching towards the sky.
Approx. dimensions:
Height 133 cm, Width 49 cm, Depth 41.5 cm.
Part of the base that is buried is 10 cm.
The age of these lanterns is difficult to determine. We think that this one is from the Taishô period (1912-1926). It has an appealing soft outlined apparel by being placed outside for many years. It is in a very good condition with some older not very noticeable chips from a few corners of the kasa. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
We will use a wooden pallet and good packing for safe transport.
When shipped we will also add a certificate of authenticity.
