"A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, this is an outstanding wine made in a classic style. The tannins are high, but the wine possesses abundant notes of cedar, licorice, underbrush, black currants and cherries." R. Parker (05/2011)

The name of Calon Ségur is anchored in the depths of Bordeaux history. Among the first properties of the Médoc, it takes its name from the "calones", wooden boats that once circulated on the estuary. The municipality on which it depends was then called Saint-Estèphe-de-Calon for a long time. In the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, President of the Parliament of Bordeaux, added to his name that of Calon. Also owner of Mouton, Lafite and Latour, his preference is indeed in this area. Hence his famous statement, at the origin of the heart that always adorns the label: "I make wine in Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon". Nicknamed the Prince of the Vines by King Louis XV, it is even said that he wore polished stones from his vineyards as buttons on his jackets.
