Mughal painting is a North Indian painting style confined to miniatures, either as book illustrations (as is the case here), or as single works to be kept in albums (muraqqa). It emerged from Persian miniature painting and developed in the court of the Mughal Empire from the 16th to the 18th centuries. The subjects are very varied and include portraits, events and scenes from court life, wild animals and hunting scenes, and illustrations of battles. Note that due to age, there are signs of wear.
