Meisen is a type of plain-weave silk textile that uses the kasuri technique.
It became popular throughout Japan around 100 years ago as women's daily wear and fashionable clothing.
In Japan, it is called "antique kimono" and is still popular and highly appreciated overseas.
Meisen is characterized by a technique in which the colors of the warp and weft threads are intentionally shifted while weaving, blurring the boundaries between the colors. The result is gentle colors and patterns with a blurred appearance that cannot be seen in ordinary plain weave.
This is representative of Japanese silk kasuri kimono.
