The Wasan table features a chrysanthemum motif in raised relief, with black lacquer accents and gold decoration created from a mix of lacquer and gold powder. Chrysanthemums symbolize longevity and rejuvenation, traditionally associated with autumn and regarded as a noble flower in Japan. The Wasan table is used in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism to hold the Wasan box, which stores hymns that celebrate the Buddha, bodhisattvas, and revered teachers. These hymns are a significant part of the Buddhist liturgy in the Jodo Shinshu tradition. The Zen table is adorned with water lilies in raised relief. It has black lacquer and gold highlights created from a mix of lacquer and gold powder. Water lilies represent purity and enlightenment, blooming beautifully even in murky waters, symbolizing spiritual growth and clarity. The Zen table is used to display the most important altar pieces such as candlesticks, incense burners, and flower vases. Both pieces show signs of aging, with scratches, chips, and discoloration due to long-term use. Two water lily reliefs are missing from the Zen table. Additionally, a crack in the lower corner has been repaired with adhesive. The bases of both tables have become loose and need to be glued back together securely. Please refer to the photos for a clearer understanding of their condition. Overall Dimension: approx.
