Markings: Posen goldsmith's manufactory, 800 purity, Germany. 1908 "Lazarus Posen Witwe (Widow of Lazarus Posen) was unique among German silver factories of the 19th and 20th centuries in that its owner and general manager were of Jewish origin. The company was founded in Frankfurt am Main in 1869 by Brendine Wetzlar, the widow of Jacob Posen, a goldsmith and merchant of Polish origin. The company followed the latest continental trends, incorporating both Danish and Austrian styles into its work. The exact date of the company's closure is unknown, but it seems certain that the wealthy Jewish company fell victim to the terror of the Nazi regime. The Posen Witwe articles are now kept in the Frankfurt Historical Museum and the Frankfurt Jewish Museum. 800 sterling silver." Diameter: 40 cm, Weight 866 grams. In good condition, stored in a display case. After a thorough cleaning, it's like new. It comes from a private collection. Please see the pictures as they are part of the description. It will be well packaged and trackable postage. Shipping to countries outside the EU may take longer due to customs clearance, please understand!
