Figural jewelry popularity exploded in the 1970s, in large part due to companies like Jonette. Many of the Jonette brooches (also called pins for those younger generations) from this era are made of pewter and have the JJ mark with copyright symbol. In 1986, Jonette introduced its “Artifacts” line of figural jewelry. Whimsical Jonette Artifacts brooches have become highly collectible. These brooches were still marked with “JJ”, so if the original Artifacts paper display card has been removed and lost, it is impossible to tell if the brooch was made during the 1970s or 1980s without research or prior knowledge.
