Hijikata Torei (1741-1807) was a painter from the middle to late Edo period. He was born in Inaba (Tottori Prefecture). In Edo, he studied under So Shiseki of the Nanpin school. There is also a theory that he was a disciple of Maruyama Okyo in Kyoto. He was excellent at landscapes and flowers and birds. He was appointed as a feudal painter by Ikeda Narikuni, the lord of the Tottori domain.
