Byōbu plegable (biombo) - Madera, Papel moteado de oro - Japón - Siglo XIX (finales del período Edo/principios del período Meiji)

Great, tall two-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) adorned with two separate hanging scroll paintings 掛け軸 (kakejiku), each depicting a taka 鷹 (hawks) on a perch. The perches feature delicate translucent silk drapes with a painting, of snow-covered pine trees 松 (matsu) and Tanabata festival bamboo respectively. These majestic birds are securely bound to their perches with decorative silk tethers. Their fearsome beauty and predatory features—sharp beaks, keen eyes, long curving talons— with an intense expression seen in the face of each bird, made them metaphors of martial training and the warrior spirit. The polychrome paintings set on paper, and surrounded by a gold-speckled paper border. Framed with black lacquered wood. Period: Japan – 19th century (Late Edo period/Early Meiji period). Dimensions: Total width: 154.2 cm (2 x 77.1 cm); Height: 170.4 cm. It is in a good restored condition, discolouration of the paper and border. Please note that this screen is a bit warped. This is not very noticeable when you see the screen from the front on the pictures. It is still possible to mount it flat on a wall as a flat piece of art. For a clear condition reference, please have a look at the photos as well. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
